Who Repairs Porsche 944 Cruise Control Units

Hi,

I've reversed engineered the late 944 cruise control to make a schematic and congenital a bench tester. I take repaired a dozen or so.

A few things I have learned.....

Around $200 is a fair price to have one of these units stock-still properly. Information technology takes a off-white amount of fourth dimension. Make sure to go a guarantee of a year or more than. Exam the unit cold. I'd keep it in the freezer for a few hours, then quickly test it in your car.

In that location are sources for repaired units at this price.

Heating the unit may brand it piece of work, just, it volition non ready it permanently. Good news if it works hot. Information technology ways you may only have solder joint bug.

If you are good at soldering, it may exist possible to set these units with a careful inspection, resoldering the bad joints. Assume all the plastic cased capacitors accept bad solder joints. About of the other discrete components volition be okay except for the 100 ohm 1 watt resistor. IC pins are hit or miss and need to exist checked carefully.

I don't find besides many bad components. I would non replace electrolytic capacitors in the power circuits as some suggest. I have not had bug with them.

This is not an easy lath to solder on. It takes skillful rework skills. Strip off the coating on the solder side before starting. Otherwise it is hard to meet the bad joints and even harder to fix them. I don't rework joints that are in good condition.

Sample fractured solder joints:

Adept luck,

Peter
